RANGERS manager Walter Smith last night admitted for the first time that his club is being run by the banks.

Speaking after the 1-1 home draw with Hibernian, Smith became the first member of club's hierarchy to concede the bottom line of the financial clampdown at Ibrox.

Since David Murray stepped down as chairman, his replacement Alistair Johnston and chief executive Martin Bain had rejected the suggestion that HBOS were running Rangers.
