FULHAM suffered Europa League heartbreak after a dramatic finale at Craven Cottage last night in a clash marred by the most astonishing officiating fiasco. Mark Schwarzer had appeared to keep them on course for victory when he saved a 77th-minute penalty. But seconds before the end of the three added minutes, Roma's Marco Andreolli fired the equaliser from an acute angle after Fulham had failed to clear a corner.

Roy Hodgson's side led thanks to Brede Hangeland's 24th-minute header when Roma's John Arne Riise was brought down by Stephen Kelly in the box. Belgian referee Paul Allaerts pointed to the spot but then, after consulting the extra goal-line official, inexplicably showed Hangeland a red card.
