When world food prices spiked in 2008, the Financial Times of London revealed that the Daewoo Logistics Corporation had negotiated a 99-year lease on nearly half of Madagascar's arable land. In return for $6 billion, the company would get a steady supply of corn and palm oil to sell in South Korea.
