Selecting Floor Pads and Brushes

The types of floor surface and application are critical elements in determining what type of pad or brush is necessary.

Floor pads and brushes come in a variety of sizes, materials and colors. Each is designed for a particular use. For the best finish, it is critical to match the correct product. Cleaning, stripping, scrubbing, buffing, polishing and burnishing floors requires the proper products and procedures for maintenance staff. Using the wrong pad or brush can result in floors needing repairs or having to be redone.

Critical issues

According to Todd Mauer, vice president of sales and marketing for O-Cedar Commercial, the selection of these products comes down to two critical factors.

"The type of floor surface the product is going to be used on and what you are trying to accomplish -- e.g., strip, clean or polish -- determines the proper product."

John Miller, executive vice president of sales and marketing for Americo Manufacturing Company, agrees. However, he points out that end users might create some misinformation by not using the right terminology.
