As summer winds down, schools across the nation stock up on products and tools to make their facilities cleaner and healthier

The final days of the countdown to the first day of school are a miserable time for students, a joyous time for parents and the perfect time for jan/san distributors to freshen up on the facts about disinfection and cross-contamination.

Cleaning for health in schools has never been so vital in light of the recent H1N1 pandemic, which first appeared in the United States in a New York school last spring, and is expected to return next fall and winter.

It's well-known that diseases and infections enter the body through mucus membranes on the face, and according to Dr. Charles Gerba of the University of Arizona, children touch their ears, nose, mouth and eyes more than 20 times an hour.

Preventing cross contamination and properly disinfecting surfaces go a long way in keeping schools and their attendants healthy, but it requires the right equipment, training and cleaning products.
