In one of his best roles, Jim Carrey plays Joel Barish, who is in love with Clementine Kruczynski (Kate Winslet). When she ends their relationship, Clementine gets her memories of Joel erased from her mind. Out of desperation Joel contacts the inventor of the process, Dr. Howard Mierzwiak (Tom Wilkinson), to have it done to him. Joel starts the procedure, but halfway through he changes his mind and wants to hang onto his experiences with Clementine.
