On 1 Sept 2009 rigid polyurethane foamers in Europe will have a new organisation representing them--PU Europe. In fact the group is not new, but is simply the reincarnation of BING, the existing group formed in 1981 to talk to legislators and regulators in Europe on behalf of the rigid PU foam sector.
As Oliver Loebel, the group's secretary general, explained, "the idea was to have a closer link between the association name and the products. BING didn't have any link with what we do and you always had to explain what it actually meant."
A new PU Europe logo and website will reinforce the new image. According to Loebel this website will show how PU insulation improves the energy efficiency of buildings, cold stores, district heating, citing the relevant data on thermal performance, cost and quality. This will support the association's view that PU insulation is the most efficient and sustainable insulation available worldwide, Loebel stressed.
PU Europe aims to be more proactive: it already works closely with other associations, particularly with ISOPA, the European Isocyanates and Polyol Producers' Association, which is an office neighbour in Brussels: "We really coordinate our activities in this area," Loebel said.
