The U.S. Commerce Department's National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) announced that EnerNex Corp. was awarded a contract to help NIST sustain the accelerated development of the hundreds of compatible standards that will be required to build a secure, interoperable smart electric power grid.

NIST is obligating a portion of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funds allocated to NIST through the Department of Energy to the contract.
