THERE'S so much information on health that often the simplest things pass you by. LORRAINE FISHER asked male doctors for their top tips to help other men keep healthy.

HAIR LOSS MEN often assume there's nothing that can be done about hair loss, but that's not true, says Dr Sunil Chopra, clinical director of The Dermatology Centre in London. 'There are over-the-counter products which work really well in preventing further loss,' he says.

'Men tend to think that because you can buy it from a chemist and don't need a prescription, it won't work - but it does.' He says the drug minoxidil - available under the brand name Regaine in shampoo or lotion form - works well by improving blood flow to the hair follicles.

'The earlier you use it, the better,' he says. 'It works in about 70 per cent of men who can see up to a 40 per cent improvement in growth. But most men use it for a couple of months then give up - you have to use it for about 18 months to really see results. And once you stop using it, you'll start losing your hair again.'

IMPOTENCE

MOST men experience impotence at some point, but if it's not just an occasional problem it could be a sign of something more sinister, says Professor Anthony Barnett, clinical director of the Heart of England NHS Trust.
