Article Excerpt Always intimidated by Hizbullah's occasional threats of a replay of the May 2008 show-down, since the June 7 elections, the March 14 camp has refrained from using its victory to dictate the terms of a new government. The negotiations faltered on the March 8 camp's demand for a blocking a third of cabinet posts. More deep-seated disagreements over Hizbullah's weapons and Lebanon's regional alliances added to the complications. In July, the two camps agreed on a compromise formula granting 15 posts to March 14 (short of a majority) and 10 to March 8 (short of veto power), with President Suleiman choosing five and thus having a decisive say.
In recent weeks, however, disagreement over the exact allocation of ministries took the process back to zero, and raised the tone of personal bickering and media slander to its shrillest level since May 7, 2008. Gen Aoun was the main obstacle, never forgiving his March 14 opponents for having prevented him becoming Lebanon's president.
