Article Excerpt The WDM LAN Subcommittee chaired by Mike Hackert, NAVAIR, met in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to continue work on the development of a specification for a fiber-optic based WDM LAN. The meeting was hosted by Electronic Cable Specialists (ECS) at the Milwaukee Regency Hyatt.
The WDM LAN Subcommittee was presented with the status of SAE standards currently in development that address topics related to the WDM LAN. Most of the drafts are in the balloting process. Mike Hackert suggested that SAE AIR-6005 addressing WDM LAN requirements would be a good reference document during the generation of draft material for the joint ARINC/SAE WDM LAN specification.
The WDM LAN Subcommittee reviewed outlines that have been prepared for Part 0, Part 1, and Part 2 of the Joint ARINC/SAE WDM LAN standard.
Minor changes were suggested for those. No outlines are yet available for Parts 3 and 4. A suggestion was made to add another Part to the specification to address metrology and calibration. The group agreed that these need to be addressed, but it may be appropriate to include them in one of the planned Parts. Since these are not critical topics, the group suggested delaying the preparation of the material, and as the WDM LAN standard Parts are developed, to determine if metrology and calibration would fit into one of those rather than developing...
