In what federal nuclear regulators are calling a "non-emergency," radioactivity has been released from Xcel Energy's Monticello nuclear power plant.

Plant operators detected low levels of tritium, a radioactive isotope of hydrogen, in a newly dug monitoring well near the plant's reactor building on Thursday, according to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC).
