TALKING POINTS, so many talking points. And where else to start but to state the obvious: it was a privilege to witness one of the most manly and skillladen All-Ireland finals in person last Sunday.

As a Kilkenny man, it was obviously a delight to see a remarkable group of hurlers claim a fourth title in succession, but what about Tipperary? The Premier didn't leave much behind them and with 11 minutes to go, I was just one of several in the crowd of a black and amber persuasion contemplating the worst.

Kilkenny might not have been in trouble but they were troubled. However, combined with their experience of hanging tough and taking their chances, they had a stroke of fortune to lead them to the altar of hurling greatness.

And the way they closed out the game was all down to what they have learned down through their years of success.

But there was luck involved, for sure. Henry Shefflin's powerfully-struck penalty goal should have been a 21-yard free-in. I was watching the game alongside another ex-Kilkenny hurler and remember telling him...
