Summer 2009 will be documented in future health policy books as the turbulent season of the Obama Health Reform efforts. His will be among the four administrations, including those of Presidents Truman, Nixon, and Clinton, who have attempted to reform our health system, and quickly learning the lessons of "third rail" politics generally relegated to Social Security policy discussions. As the debate rages on, the formidable proponents and opponents have given fodder to the media to build headlines that prompt visceral knee-jerk responses from a naive public. It is impossible to keep up with the interpretation and misinterpretation of every nuanced phrase of information released by the White House to help inform us on what is taking shape. Like a summertime looping roller coaster, it twists, it turns, sometimes it's uphill, sometimes it's downhill, sometimes it's upside down ... how do we know where we're at?
