OR Aaron Lennon, Fthe time is now. It was little more than two years ago that he was first given the job of making the nation get over its infatuation with David Beckham, but it may as well have been a different age.

There was a man on the right flank for England at Wembley last night, a very different player to the little boy lost on his first day at big school we had previously seen.

Things change. Wearing the number seven shirt under Steve McClaren in the maelstrom of a failing European Championship campaign was a poisoned chalice for Lennon. Yet where McClaren's England appeared inhibited and timid, those players marshalled by Fabio Capello are confident and expansive.

Lennon, in scintillating form for Tottenham Hotspur, is in perfect tune with the mood....
