Libertarian think tank warns military to mind industrial woes.

Since the end of the Cold War, the Department of Defense has done little if anything to stem a massive hemorrhage of American industrial capability. DOD, administration policymakers and politicians including those currently in power "have been surprisingly sanguine about the loss of industrial capabilities that once would have been considered central to American power and prosperity," according to a report from the Lexington Institute, a free-market think tank based in Arlington, Va. Policymakers and politicians "are so accustomed to the United States being an unrivaled industrial colossus that they simply assume it will always be so--despite growing evidence to the contrary."

The United States must reverse its industrial decline in order to maintain military superiority. One-tenth of all U.S. industrial activity is related to defense spending, and this funding should be leveraged to improve America's economic competitiveness.
