Today I'll answer readers' questions about unemployment benefits and my recent columns on appliance rebates and nuisance telemarketers.

Q: Gino D. of Napa asks, "I am about to run out of my unemployment benefits. Will there be another extension?"

A: You're in good company. The California Employment Development Department will send out final unemployment checks to about 66,000 people this week and 170,000 by year's end. Nationwide, the National Employment Law Project estimates that up to 1.5 million will exhaust benefits by year end unless Congress acts.

U.S. legislators have recently introduced two bills that would provide some new benefits and extend others that are about to expire.
