THOSE Arsenal supporters who travel with a sense of foreboding to Old Trafford tomorrow with last season's comprehensive European exit against Manchester United still fresh in the memory would be well served by considering the subsequent Premier League visit as the birth of their current renaissance.

While it is true that United were undeniably superior in winning home and away in both legs of that semi-final clash, it does not require a great leap to suggest the gap has perceptibly closed, especially in light of the 0-0 draw the Gunners secured 11 days after their Champions League nadir.

The result was not enough to deny Sir Alex Ferguson's side their third straight domestic title but Arsenal were a somewhat unfortunate not to win...
