World Bioenergy--Clean Vehicles & Fuels Conference 2009 is a special joint partnership between two leading international events and the Swedish Energy Agency. Set to coincide with the Swedish EU presidency, it will be held in Stockholm. The World Bioenergy international conference and exhibition on biomass for energy, is organized by the Swedish Bioenergy Association SVE-BIO and Elmia AB in Jonkoping.

Sweden's role as a pioneer in alternative fuels is reflected by the country's royal family which has long championed the causes of climate change and environmental issues. It is therefore not surprising that the World Bioenergy--Clean Vehicles & Fuels conference and exhibition held from 16-18 September 2009 will be inaugurated and patronized by His Majesty King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden.

Sweden is one of the leaders in the global race to find alternative and renewable energy sources. Its innovative strategies have been largely due to the country's lack of fossil fuel resources.

The European Union Renewable Energy and Climate Change package which was agreed upon in December 2008, proposes that each EU member increase its share of renewable energy by 2020. Sweden's self-imposed target is 49%--the highest in the EU.

After the oil crisis in the 1970's, Sweden decided to break the link between economic growth and increased greenhouse gas emissions by switching to renewable energy.

Sweden's GDP grew by 48% between 1990 and 2007. During this period greenhouse gas emissions decreased by 9% while the use of bioenergy increased by 79%, from 67 TWh to 120 TWh, accounting for just over 28% of the Swedish utilized energy demand.

The 2008 World Bioenergy conference hosted 200 exhibitors which attracted 5700 visitors. Last year's trade fair and conference differed from the previous World Bioenergy events because it emphasized the fact that bioenergy is not just a climate project but a necessity...
