Article Excerpt A rare Congressional hearing is asking the Defense Department how it plans to improve the recovery and accounting of the more than 84,000 Americans missing since World War II. Since 2000, an average of 76 missing servicemembers have been identified annually.
"That number of annual identifications is not consistent with a national priority of achieving the fullest possible accounting," said Rep. Joe Wilson (R-S.C.), the ranking Republican on the House Armed Services Subcommittee on Military Personnel, during a recent hearing.
