1. Introduction
Fiber-optic sensors are an enabling technology that makes it possible to measure a variety of physical, chemical and even biological parameters in conditions under which other sensor technologies fail or simply cannot. In addition these sensors have important advantages over their non-optical counterparts. For example they are passive and immune to electromagnetic interference, can be multiplexed, have higher sensitivity, better accuracy, etc. Fiber-optic sensor for high temperature applications (above 300[degrees]C) is an increasing and important field. Such applications range from weld control and monitoring to turbine engine testing. Transformers, fire alarm systems, oil wells, monitoring of furnace operation or volcanic events also require reliable sensors with stability at ultra high temperature (up to 1000[degrees]C).
