Baldwyn-based Hancock Fabrics released its quarterly earnings report the first week of June.

While the company posted a net loss of $900,000 for the first quarter of 2009, representing $0.05 per share, that figure is a substantial improvement over the first quarter of 2008, when the company endured a net loss of $5.3 million, or $0.28 per share.

At the same time Hancock was significantly cutting its losses, its sales rose, from $63.8 million during the first quarter...
