Pain management is a topic that is never exhausted in nursing. Some shifts, we manage to keep all our patients comfortable. During others, however, we may have one or two we seem unable to help. Why can't we get it right? One problem with pain is that it's as varied as the populations we treat. We need to remind ourselves constantly that the strategy that worked so well for one patient may be inappropriate or ineffective for another.
