As Christianity enters the 21st century, Francis Anekwe Oborji's Concept of Mission: The Evolution of Contemporary Missiology is an important guide to what is at stake. This book represents the first voice from an African Catholic missiologist who wants to be a voice not merely from Africa or the global South, but an ecumenical voice who is sharing the source of mission as the heart of God or missio Dei, the goals of mission as salvation and justice, and the main activities of mission as proclamation, evangelization, and contextualization.
In order to define the source, goals and activities of mission the author brings together the following four threads: the concepts and paradigms of mission, the changes that have been made since the first effort to define mission in theological terms, the most challenging elements for mission studies today, and how theological missiology is. These four threads are reduced to this question: what is the subject matter of missiology today and how is that related to the preceding paradigms?
