Combining both European and Asian perspectives in their scholarly work the two authors of Christianity as a World Religion present a remarkable achievement and a unique new introduction to Christianity in both its global and regional manifestations. Sebastian Kim is Professor of Theology and Public Life in York, St John University, UK and author of "In Search of Identity: Debates on Religious Conversion in India" (OUP, 2003). For many years he taught courses on World Christianity and also was Director of the Christianity in Asia Project at the Faculty of Divinity of the University of Cambridge. Kirsteen Kim is Honorary Lecturer at the University of Birmingham, UK and Vice Moderator of the Commission on World Mission and Evangelism of the World Council of Churches. She is also author of "The Holy Spirit in the World: A Global Conversation" (Orbis/SPCK, 2007). In speaking of Christianity as a "world religion" no ideological claim for superiority or geographical dominance is made, rather the term is used phenomenologically to describe Christianity in a sober and realistic manner as a religion which is spread across the globe and presents not just the religion of one region, as a religion which claims to be universally applicable and locally inclusive, as a religion which has always been widespread and practised locally in different communities across the world and as a transnational movement as Christians around the world are connected to one another through many different networks and structures (p.1f).
