After working for years in a leadership capacity at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, Dr. Daniel Jones has been selected as the new chancellor of the University of Mississippi, replacing the popular Dr. Robert Khayat. With these large shoes to fill, the position promises to be a challenging one for Jones. The Mississippi Business Journal spoke with Jones about his recently job switch and his footprint left at UMMC.
Q--How will the University of Mississippi be different from UMMC?
A--Well, it's all part of the same university, so that part of it will be the same. But, clearly here my focus has been on healthcare, and everything related to healthcare in Mississippi. In the new role, I'll have much broader interest and responsibilities. It will mean a move geographically, moving to Oxford. That will be different. Also, working on a day-to-day basis with a different set of people. The privilege of working for the very same university makes me happy, though.
Q--How do you feel about moving to Oxford?
A--We're excited about moving to Oxford. It's a great community, and a beautiful town. Oxford is lovely in a lot of ways, and it will certainly be a privilege to live on campus in the chancellor's home.
