Brittain Cheney has been the Newport Beach-based firm's vice president for leasing here since August 2007. Cheney, who has a Bachelor of Arts degree in business administration from San Jose State University, spent more than 30 years in Northern California before shifting locales two years ago.

The Business Journal recently asked Cheney, a former tri-athlete, to give us his insights into the local commercial market, and where the industry might be headed in a turbulent economy.

How's business?

Our portfolio has performed very well in light of the market conditions over the last six to 12 months. Our occupancy downtown, for instance, is actually up since January. That's hard to argue with.
