The purpose of this continuing education series is to increase the pediatric nurse's understanding about a sampling of lifestyle circumstances children may experience and the impact of these circumstances on the children's health.

Pediatric nurses come into contact with children experiencing a wide range of lifestyle circumstances, some of which might cause children to be vulnerable to negative health outcomes. Exploring a sampling of lifestyle issues can help prepare pediatric nurses to better understand these circumstances and provide appropriate care.

This continuing education series consists of two articles. The first article presents findings from a study that evaluated health-related quality of life in children being raised in two itinerant populations: traveling carnival children and migrant farm worker children. The second article reports the results of an ethnographic study that explored the culture of homelessness for adolescents.
