Certainly most people who have lived in Eugene for a couple of decades or more at least have heard of Wings. The longtime organization has evolved through the years from its focus on self-realization to a broader mission described on its Web site "to inspire and support positive change, creating an abundant, loving and respectful world community."

Now the CEO of the organization, Kris King, has written a book, "My Heart Has Wings," which consists of 52 essays designed to help readers find purpose - even happiness - in life, based on their ability to turn setbacks at least into enrichment, if not joy.

King has walked the walk. She has endured chemotherapy treatment for breast cancer, lived through the death of one of her three sons just a week after his 21st birthday and spent 20 years counseling others on how to work through their own personal struggles.

It's no coincidence that "My Heart Has Wings" has 52 essays....
