Dan Steele said he wanted to bring an "army" to the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

The top-ranked Oregon women spent the past two days answering his call.

When the NCAA West Region meet concluded Saturday in front of 7,096 at Hayward Field, the Ducks had qualified nine athletes in 11 events for the national meet, which will be held June 10-13 in Fayetteville, Ark.

"We had a really great regional meet," said Steele, Oregon's associate director of track and field.

Add to that total previously qualified heptathletes Brianne Theisen and Kalindra McFadden, and 10,000-meter runner Mattie Bridgmon, and the Ducks seem ready to contend for their first trophy at the NCAA meet since finishing fourth in 1993.
