SYDNEY, July 1 Asia Pulse - Australian building approvals fell for the first time in four months in May as demand for flats and units slumped by nearly half, economists say.

Australian building approvals fell 12.5 per cent to 9,953 units in May, seasonally adjusted, from a downwardly revised 11,374 units in April, the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) said on Wednesday.
