Scripps Memorial Hospital Encinitas officials said they will begin work shortly on a $350 million project that will more than double the size of its emergency department to keep up with rising population demands.

Following the necessary city building approvals--expected soon--Scripps Health will begin construction of a three-story parking garage, central energy plant and 78,000-square-foot critical care facility that will form the cornerstone of its new emergency department.
