A SERIOUSLY ill 16-yearold has made a direct plea to Mary Harney to stop the Crumlin hospital cuts and help her get the operation that could keep her alive.

Teenager Carol Ann Walsh told the Health Minister: 'You are messing with my health.' The scoliosis sufferer has been waiting almost 16 months for a potentially life-saving spine operation at the hightech children's facility which is being starved of even more funds because of the latest budget squeeze.

On a day when Dail critics crossed party lines to express their revulsion at the callous decision, Carol Ann said: 'If I got to meet Minister Mary Harney I would tell her if I do not get this operation it could affect my heart and lungs and be life-threatening.

I'd say, 'You are messing with my health.''' Meanwhile in another dramatic development, a ferocious war of words broke out last night between Minister Harney and Professor John Crown over a coruscating article he wrote in yesterday's Irish Daily Mail.
