RAILWAYS and shippers rely on many types of information to keep wagons secure and working efficiently--but although lineside monitoring equipment has improved recently, it still does not provide all the data needed.

In many countries, thefts of loads and wagon damage remain causes for concern. Obtaining status, event, and condition information about each wagon in service is critical to effective fleet management. On-board asset monitoring technology is the most efficient way to gather this data and convert it to actionable information.

In addition, there is now a great need for near-real-time data to determine wagon location and status in times of emergency and elevated security threats.
