Amelia Earhart, the lady when you think of an aviatrix, earned her wings in 1921. She was thrust into aviation stardom in 1928 after becoming the first woman to fly across the Atlantic (albeit only as a passenger). For the next decade her manager/husband, George Putnam (GP), planned and executed longer and more dangerous flights, keeping her in the news constantly. But her most famous flight--one along the Earth's equator--became the one she never finished.
