Coast construction still trying to rebound.

When a question is posed about the Coast's construction industry being back to normal, the answers are a mixed bag. For some responders, it is quite the opposite of normal, others refer to the "new normal" while some praise the influx of federal recovery dollars.

"Despite the effects of the national recession, over $l billion in city and county projects on the Coast are expected to begin this year," said Brian Sanderson, president of the Gulf Coast Business Council." Additionally, during the first quarter this year, residential permits significantly increased over fourth quarter 2008 numbers, and future commercial contracts doubled in both Hancock and Jackson counties."
