For the first time in a decade, federal dollars are being funneled into a summer jobs program. The money could put as many as 3,000 young people into temporary work assignments.

San Diego County is getting about $7 million to fund the effort, which is part of Washington's $787 billion economic stimulus package that Congress passed this year.
