NEIL McCANN was once the Nacho Novo of his time at Ibrox. He scored in a league decider, savoured cup final triumphs, netted in vital European games, yet didn't always command a regular game and certainly never enjoyed the Spaniard's cult hero status.

Saturday's Homecoming Scottish Cup Final ultimately came down to a contest between two of the best wee men in our game over the last decade.

Ultimately, it was Novo who had the hex factor over his fellow countryman, Bairns keeper Dani Mallo, to shatter Falkirk's dreams of a first triumph since 1957.

And McCann was left to reflect on two glorious first-half chances when Rangers were there for the taking.

Frankly, this was an occasion on which it was almost impossible to imagine the SPL champions recovering from losing the first goal. After all, look how hard they found it simply to hang on.
