Attracting investors is a challenge, whatever the business. But when you're a budding entrepreneur with just 60 seconds to sell something new and different, it sounds like reality television at its worst.

Todd Wackrow knows how it feels. As the winner of New Zealand's first ever Fast Pitch event, he's shown he can get it right-and it's about a lot more than fast talking.

"My biggest learning was that the actual product or service only plays a small part in the overall attractiveness of a business. I benefited from putting thought into other areas, such as what the market need is, how will it make money, the importance of a great team and potential exit strategies."

It helped clarify what he'd learned since starting his company, says Wackrow.

"A great business needs a lot more than just a great idea. The beauty of a 60 second pitch is you really have to drill down to the key factors you believe would make it a success, which is often not easy."
