PORTLAND - They grew up Tuesday night. Right before our eyes, the precocious kids matured.

Portland dropped Houston 88-77 in a classic playoff grinder at the Rose Garden. It took a fourth-quarter surge, the crowd was on its feet the entire time, and they left you wanting more.

Tremendous stuff, and the message sent wasn't about staying alive. It was that the Blazers have arrived.

"A pretty good team," Rockets forward Luis Scola said. "They know how to play."

Which is why it's disappointing they probably won't be playing much longer. Why it's a shame the growth spurt started 196 seconds too late.

The Blazers extended the series until Thursday, at least....
