An estimated 2,150 runners will start the Eugene Marathon on Sunday, which means an estimated 2,150 reasons to be there, but maybe no reason quite like that of bib No. 1013, Chandra Wilkins.

Who began running two years ago because of profound grief. Not to run away from that grief, but because running provided the only way she could truly embrace it.

Wilkins was 28 when her older sister, Dawn Byrum-Allen, died on Jan. 28, 2007, at age 30, of an accidental overdose of pain medication, a tragedy beyond words.
