One of WILPF's great strengths is our broad and comprehensive peace agenda. Our ability to show connections between issues such as gender equality, disarmament and challenging militarism can be more significant than our work on separate issues. The 52nd Session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW), 25 February--7 March 2008 was one such occasion to raise our unique voice.

The focus of the CSW session was Financing for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women. The Commission also reviewed progress made on the agreements made at the 2004 session on "women's equal participation in conflict prevention, management and conflict resolution and in post-conflict peacebuilding."

At first glance neither of these themes appears to deal with military spending. However, WILPF was able to deepen the consideration of both themes through combining the strengths of our two projects, Reaching Critical Will on disarmament and PeaceWomen on women, peace and security.
