WRAPUP 1-Strong U.S. dollar hits Alberto Culver, Energizer

Alberto Culver Co (ACV.N) and Energizer Holdings Inc (ENR.N) gave muted outlooks for the rest of the year on Monday, as higher raw material costs and the stronger U.S. dollar continue to pressure results, sending shares of both household products makers lower.

Alberto, which makes hair and skincare products like Alberto V05, TRESemme and Noxzema, posted a lower quarterly profit that met Wall Street estimates as higher raw material costs led to a slimmer gross margin.

Alberto said its gross margin was likely to increase over time. But BMO Capital Markets analyst Connie Maneaty said that suggested the margin would decline first, perhaps even for the rest of this fiscal year, something she does not think is reflected in analysts' estimates.
