Arnold Goldberg, M.D., is a professor in the Department of Psychiatry at Rush Medical College in Chicago, and Training and Supervising Analyst at the Institute for Psychoanalysis in that city. His most recent book is Errant Selves.

Yes, Virginia, some analysts still use the couch for their work. And among those analysis are followers of Heinz Kohut and his Self Psychology. This volume is the eighteenth in the Progress in Self Psychology series. Goldberg is both the editor for this volume and for the entire series. Self Psychology, like many other branches of psychoanalytic theory, continues to generate a strong stream of academic writing and reflection.
