This is the first issue of the journal that I have been responsible for since I began my term as Editor of the Journal of Sex Research (JSR) in January 2008. * Along with a new cover, the start of 2009 sees two major developments for JSR.

Since 1990, the Annual Review of Sex Research (ARSR), a publication of The Society for the Scientific Study of Sexuality (SSSS), has published authoritative and scholarly reviews across a wide range of topics related to sexuality in one annual volume. In 2008, SSSS and Taylor & Francis Group, LLC, the journal's publisher, made the decision to incorporate the ARSR as a special double issue of JSR.
