Four trustee candidates are seeking election to three board seats in Hawthorn Woods. These are 4-year terms. Incumbent Neil Morgan was appointed in 2007. The newcomers are Kelly Dobbs-Corrigan, David Ansani and John Schaefges. The candidates fielded questions on a variety of topics for the Daily Herald. Their answers follow.

Q. What is your number one campaign issue?

Ansani: Straightening out the financial situation and Byzantine accounting system created by the village.

Dobbs-Corrigan: Improve the overall financial management of the village. Our village lacks a finance director and a long-term financial plan. That coupled with decreased revenues, an economic downturn and financial mismanagement has put our village in a precarious fiscal position.

Morgan: Restoring financial stability to the village. The current mayor has managed to turn multimillions of dollars

of developer donations from Toll Brothers and others into a village that is for all practical purposes broke and is saddled with significant long-term debt.

Schaefges: Balance our village budget and restore a positive cash flow.

Q. What is your Number 2 campaign issue?

Ansani: Repairing relationships between the village and other local government entities.

Dobbs-Corrigan: Rebuild relationships with the surrounding communities and Lake County. Participating in cooperative planning with surrounding municipalities and Lake County to facilitate an environment of responsible growth.

Morgan: Restoring the good name of Hawthorn Woods with surrounding communities, developers and Lake County. For too long, this village has chosen to take confrontational and adversarial relationships with surrounding communities, developers, land owners and Lake County.

Schaefges: Concentrate on the SSA #4 down Midlothian Road Corridor.

Q. What is your Number 3 campaign issue?

Ansani: Opening up the communication between the board and the residents and making public information accessible to the public.
