While the Detroit Pistons could post a profitable season if the team makes a second- or third-round playoff run, William Davidson's other winter sports property, the Tampa Bay Lightning, continues to face financial losses despite its winning performance on the ice.
The Lightning, tied with the Detroit Red Wings at press time for the National Hockey League's points lead, isn't likely to make a profit this year, said Tom Wilson, president and CEO of Palace Sports & Entertainment in Auburn Hills.
"Barring an unexpected Stanley Cup victory, the losses will continue,'' he said.
Palace Sports & Entertainment operates the business side of the Pistons and Lightning. Davidson, who owns one of the largest glass companies in the world, Guardian Industries Corp., is the majority owner of the teams.
