Fundraiser unkind to donkeys

Regarding "Students, alumni take reins for fundraiser" (Register-Guard, Feb. 23):

It's disappointing that McKenzie High School held a donkey basketball game. Donkeys are smart, personable animals who like to spend their days grazing in pastures and socializing with friends. Dragging them out to a high school gymnasium to play basketball is cheap and tawdry.

What kind of lesson does this teach students? That exploiting animals is acceptable as long as it makes a buck? It's a sad state of affairs if this is the most creative...
