South Eugene never gave West Linn a chance.

The top-ranked Axemen scored the first 11 points of the game and built a 23-point halftime lead before cruising into the state tournament with a 68-44 win over No. 8 West Linn in the second round of the OSAA Class 6A girls basketball playoffs Friday night at South Eugene High School.

South Eugene flustered West Linn from the start as its pressure didn't let the Lions get past halfcourt on their first two possessions, and West Linn committed eight turnovers on its first 12 possessions. Meanwhile, the Axemen hit five of their first seven shots to take an 11-0 lead less than three minutes into the game.
