After a lifetime spent in the windy, wet coast town of North Bend, Kelcy McKenna is enjoying her new life living in the dry desert air.

But 11/2 years into her tennis career at Arizona State, her coach, Sheila McInerney, is also glad McKenna still remembers where she came from.

"She prides herself in having a different background than some of your average tennis kids," McInerney said. "She's from North Bend, Oregon, and she isn't an academy kid. She took a different route and that's something she feels good about."
